Experience Your Fear And Take Action Anyway

We come this way but once.  We can either tiptoe through life and hope that we get to death without being too badly bruised or we can live a full, complete life achieving our goals and realising our wildest dreams. – Bob Proctor

In 2009, the relationship with my family took a sharp turn left.  When I woke up that May evening and decided to travel abroad to Australia without evening consulting my family about going (they would’ve talked me out of it), the hate and cynicism started.  Even before I moved here to Thailand, I just saved my money and I was able to take a trip to Sedona, Arizona in March of 2013, and Honolulu, Hawaii in April of 2013 before moving to Thailand in May.  The jealousy began to grow immensely amongst my family, even with members asking me for a simple 10$ for gas; and if I didn’t give it to them, I was considered the most selfish one in the family.

When I left, little did I know that I was going from fear, to absolute animosity here in Thailand.  My family didn’t back me whatsoever, nor did they talk to me.  During the toughest nights of my life in Chanthaburi, Thailand where I was denied entry to a restaurant for being black, I didn’t have a family to go back to and tell them about what happened and how to overcome it.  Nope.

I experienced the fear.  The fear whereas I had to send a very nasty, but real message to my family members about how I felt neglected over the years.  I sent that message fearing that I would probably never speak or see them ever again, and I’m ok with that because all the mess that was on my chest needed to be resolved.

How can this relate to you? Well, as you move forward with your journey…from where you are to where you want to be, you are going to have to confront those fears.  Fear is natural. Whenever you start a new project, take on a new venture, book that trip to a foreign country, or just put yourself out there as an iconic figure…there is usually fear.  Fear of being hated.  Fear of being criticized.  Oh, believe me, Murphy’s Law will come knocking on your door just as he does to everyone.

Unfortunately, most people let fear stop them from taking the necessary steps to achieve their dreams.  However, successful people feel that fear along with the rest of us but don’t let it keep them from doing anything they want to do – or have to do.  Understand that fear is something to be acknowledged, experienced, and taken along for the ride.  Once you take on fear head on, the easier it gets deny it when it comes along.
