Not only did I create it, I helped target thousands upon thousands of students that are in desperate need. I went above and beyond what I was paid to do and the law of increasing returns worked in my favor.
If you really want to except at what you do – really become a towing success in business, school, or life – do more than is required, always giving something extra, something that is not expected. A business that goes the extra mile earns the respect, loyalty, and referrals of its customers.
If you’re focused on only your own needs, you may think and realize that it’s not only selfish, but unfair. Why should you give extra effort without compensation or recognition? I know, that’s what a lot of you are asking yourselves, but you need to trust that eventually it will get noticed and that you will receive the compensation and recognition that you deserve. Eventually, as the old saying goes, the cream always rises to the top. Here are some examples.
- A client buys a painting from you and you frame it at no additional charge.
- You sell someone something and add in a thank you note and a bottle of wine.
- Someone buys something from your online business and you give them a $25 gift card to a restaurant in their local neighborhood.
- As an employee, you not only do all of your own work, but you also work on your day off when another employee calls in sick. We take on new responsibilities without demanding more pay, you offer to train a new employee, you anticipate problems before they occur and prevent them, you see something that needs to be done and you do it without even asking.
Car dealerships could give free car washes when any car needs to be service.
Honestly, from personal experience, service means absolutely everything in the world, too. I give tips to waiters and waitresses when they go the extra mile by pouring more water in my glass – yes. I pay people for doing more than what they’re paid to do because I work in accordance with this law.
The Sintesa Jimbaran, a resort in Bali, Indonesia, is one of the most wonderful places I’ve ever been in my life. There was a lady at the front desk that set up my night safari and booked everything without even asking. They came to my table and talked to me about my travels. There was a bartender who almost and always chatted it up with me when I was having a margarita….or two. This type of service is always rewarded and that’s why they have almost a perfect score on just about every 2nd/3rd party hotel site because of their impeccable service. They didn’t have to, but it’s their motto.
