Arsenio’s ESL Podcast: Episode 21 – Collocating With Do, Play, & Go

Welcome back, my students of the world!  Let’s go over some collocations, which are basically two or more words that naturally go together.

You can make notes of these as you learn new words.  Study the types of words that follow go, play, and do.

The Rundown

Go + verb-ing

Play + team sports, games, instruments

Do + individual sports and activities

go running, go hiking

play chess, play the piano

do judo, do kung fu

Put the words/activities in the correct column down below.

Aerobics, badminton, bowling, the guitar, jogging, skating, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, yoga

go + _______________

play + _____________

do + ______________

After you’re finished, add one more to each column.

Practice with a partner.  Do you like to do the things above?

Ex: Do you like to go swimming?

An: Yes, I do.
