Ramble of Positivity: Episode 030 – Kicking off The New Year on Fire

First and foremost, the majority of you need to understand how to be grateful. When I do this particular podcast, I love to outline just how to do that, so here it is!

Give two people compliments throughout your day without being told to do it.

How can you develop a positive mental attitude?

From the beginning of last year, I started developing my mind rigorously — day-in and day-out. For most of you out there, development in general is something of the past. Some of you aren’t even into personal development, and you’ll be doing the same things (if you haven’t already started) this year just like you were doing last year. Same people, same irresponsibility, same habits, same everything. You have to train your mind, and it’s one of the most difficult things to do.

I recall going to Australia back in 2017 and a friend told me, “you’ve changed. You mention being black and you have a thing against caucasians like I’ve never seen before.”

Still carrying the weight of how society, as a whole, has treated me in this country….I was still a victim. In order to escape victimhood, you have to to hone in and own up to everything that has ever happened to you. The University of Hardknocks loves giving out degrees to just about everyone in the world; regardless of race, creed, color, religion, etc.

At the beginning of last year, and as desperate as I was, I came across Napoleon Hill’s Positive Mental Attitude and that was the beginning of the change.

From actionable steps, to habits….you have to train your mind. I’m done with the “I will” and I love “I’m going to” more…because that’s a plan. Will is in the future and will forever be in the future.

  • I’m so unbelievably grateful that I’m living in an age where ample opportunity is everywhere.
  • I’m very thankful for the support group I’ve created that constantly gives me feedback.
  • I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been able to develop my mind to the point that I get amazing ideas to improve my business and give back to the society.
  • With all my heart, thank you for the process last year….a process which was so desperately needed.

Side Effects of Protein Deficiency

I had a student, long ago, who was more frail than ever.  She’s what I would call a “white Thai,” a girl who simply changes her skin tone because she thinks white is beautiful.  Not only that, she said she loves being thin because Thai men like thin, white-Thai girls.

Ridiculous, right?

However, this was coming at a great cost: her health.  Her health was despicable at the time and she was only 20 years old.

Her cousin, who sat right next to her, was on a high-protein diet.  She cooked chicken ALL THE TIME and that’s what her diet primarily consisted of (and of course vegetables).  As a 21-year-old, she had a gorgeous body and was fit.

However, her cousin, who looked like she was dying, was sitting next to her, pathetically.  I asked her, “why are you so skinny?”

“I don’t eat protein!” she replied.

Horrific Mistake.

I remember reading an article on Dr. Axe’s website about protein deficiency, and the horrors of what that girl was going through was evident.

Eating too little protein can result in these symptoms as well:

  • A sluggishmetabolism
  • Trouble losing weight
  • Trouble building muscle mass
  • Low energy levels and fatigue
  • Poor concentration and trouble learning
  • Moodiness and mood swings
  • Muscle, bone and joint pain
  • Blood sugar changes that can lead to diabetes
  • Slow wound healing
  • Low immunity

For those of you who want to read on this website instead of Dr. Axe’s, here are some symptoms in the blocked quote down below.

1. You have high cholesterol

High cholesterol and triglycerides are not just caused by eating fatty foods — they are also a result of increased inflammation, hormonal imbalances and high-processed/high-sugar diets. If you tend to replace protein foods with sugary snacks, refined carbs and packaged convenient goods, your cholesterol can start to rise as your liver and cells process fats less efficiently. Some studies have even found an inverse relationship exists between protein intake and risk of heart disease.

2. You’re feeling more anxious and moody

Amino acids are the building blocks for neurotransmitters which control your mood. Proteins help the brain synthesize hormones like dopamine and serotonin that help bring on positive feelings like calm, excitement and positivity.

3. Your workouts are suffering

You’re probably already aware that protein is needed to build new muscle mass, but it’s also important for sustaining your energy and motivation. A low protein diet can result in muscle wasting (or muscle atrophy), fatigue and even fat gain — it can also be behind female athlete triad. In fact, you can workout more, but see less results if your diet isn’t adequate to support tissue repair or your energy needs.

4. You aren’t sleeping well

Poor sleep and insomnia can sometimes be linked to unstable blood sugar levels, a rise in cortisol and a decrease in serotonin production. Blood sugar swings during the day carry over through the night. Carbohydrates require much more insulin than fat or protein does. Eating foods with protein before bed can help with tryptophan and serotonin production, and they have a minimal effect on blood glucose levels; in fact, protein slows down the absorption of sugar during a meal.

5. You have “brain fog”

Protein is needed to support many aspects of healthy neurological functioning. Brain fog, poor concentration, lack of motivation and trouble learning new information can be signs that you’re low in neurotransmitters you need to focus including dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Neurotransmitters are synthesized in the brain using amino acids, and studies show that balanced diets with enough protein can boost work performance, learning and motor skills.

6. You’re gassy and can’t go to the bathroom

Many metabolic and digestive functions depend on amino acid intake. If your body feels fatigued and run down in general due to protein deficiency, enzyme production, muscle contractions in your GI tract and digestion in general will suffer.

7. Your pants are feeling tighter

Although sometimes higher in calories than carbs, high-protein foods cause increased satiety to a greater extent than carbohydrates or fats do, so they can prevent overeating and snacking. They also help stabilize your blood sugar, allow you to retain more muscle which burns more calories all day, and can reduce cravings.

8. Your menstrual cycle is irregular

One of the most common reasons women suffer from irregular periods and infertility is the condition known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Two major risk factors for PCOS are obesity and pre-diabetes or diabetes — in fact, insulin resistance affects 50–70 percent of all women with PCOS. Low-protein, high-sugar/high-carb diets can contribute to insulin resistance, fatigue, inflammation and weight gain that disrupts the delicate balance of female hormones (including that of estrogen, progesterone and DHEA) needed to sustain a regular cycle.

9. You’ve been getting injured more often and are slow to heal

A low protein diet can raise your risk for muscle loss, falling, slow bone healing, bone weakness, fractures and even osteoporosis. Protein is needed for calcium absorption and helping with bone metabolism. Studies show that older adults with the greatest bone losses are those with a low protein intake of about 16–50 grams per day. Research also shows that a diet high in amino acids can help treat muscle loss due to aging (sarcopenia).

Positive Mental Attitude: Season 2 – Episode 15 – Food, Physical & Mental Energy

“Yes, to maintain your level of both physical and mental energy you need to exercise both your body and mind. But there is a third factor. Your body and mind both need to be fed properly. You help to maintain your physical body by taking in quantities of wholesome, nutritious foods. You maintain your mental and spiritual vigor by absorbing mental and spiritual vitamins from inspirational and religious books.

Vitamins—necessary for a healthy mind and body! George Scarseth, Ph.D., former Director of Research for the American Farm Research Association in Lafayette, Indiana, told about a village on the seacoast of Africa. The village is more advanced than a community of similar tribes in the interior. Why? Because its inhabitants are physically stronger and more mentally alert—they have more bodily energy—than the interior tribes-men. The difference between the tribesmen on the coast and those living inland stems from a difference in diet. The village tribesmen in the interior do not have a sufficient amount of protein whereas those on the coast obtain quantities from the fish they eat.”

Health Energy

So, as mentioned before and on so many different blogs (and will possibly reiterate myself in the coming years/decades), there are lots of forms of energy.

I had a conversation with a troll, who was a boss, at my old boss after he observed my package and supplements labled “Herbalife.”

“What do you buy that stuff for?”

“Well, you see there’s _________ and ________”….and when you try explaining yourself to a Gen B, his/her ears are already cut off from accepting anything because they believe their preconceived notions.  He said that if I eat regular food, I wouldn’t need supplements.

Hmmm, that’s interesting. MAYBE in Thailand, a country where there aren’t giant factories in the outskirts of the city producing processed foods to kill people (This. Is. America), there are still essentials and deficiencies, especially in Selenium and Zinc.

How could someone impose their WILL of not knowing wtf they’re talking about on you? Well, Gen B’s always seem to know best, right? LOL.

Nonetheless, I’ve been using Herbalife for a while already and I’m absolutely AMAZED at some of the wonderful products which have helped me with my digestive tract, immune support, and just vitamins in general.

Mental Energy

Mental energy — YES! What are you feeding the mind.  There have been alot of likes on posts I HATE seeing.  Yes, social reform and for good causes, but the amount of negativity, especially in the America community which pushes the narrative that there IS EQUALITY THERE, is too much for me.  How is it allowing me to grow? Just that…it ISN’T!

So, if it isn’t, then what are you going to do about it? Clean your NEWSFEED!

“If you suspect that your diet is deficient in certain vitamins and elements so that your energy level is depressed, you should do something about it. A good cookbook can help you, and there are government pamphlets available at low cost. If the condition persists, have a physical checkup.

These jolts of energy will go to waste if we permit them to be short-circuited by needless negative emotions. But used constructively, this energy can multiply itself many times, just as a powerhouse generator produces vast amounts of useful power.

Blockchain in Bangkok: Neighborhood is Buying & Selling Energy

I normally give Thailand (primarily the women) a hard time in terms of treating individuals the same.  However, I love innovation.  As the mass transit system sets up across Bangkok, I’m like a child on Christmas, jumping around deliriously and anxiously waiting for the grand opening.

With the Sky Trains (grey, red, pink, brown, green line extensions, orange, yellow) going up around the city, there’s an even greater story: Thais buying and selling electricity using blockchain.

So, the infographic might be hard to understand, but let’s just say the generating capacity of is enough to trade electricity between a mall, school, dental hospital, and apartment complex.

The managing director of the Australian firm, Power Ledger, said that enabling renewable energy trading will reduce our carbon footprint.

Just recently, Elon Musk heading to my native Puerto Rico and provided dozens of solar panels to a children’s hospital.  Furthermore, neighborhoods all across the globe are implementing solar panels in neighborhoods — encouraging everyone to switch to renewable energy.

This not only puts a spark into humanity, but for countries such as Thailand, which are notorious for pollution, there are people who are pushing to make the switch.

Most notably, the gym I go to, Lab BKK, is all renewable; from the lightbulbs, to taking out all plastic, to having all their products + humanity.

Times are getting interestingly exciting!

Masks of Masculinity: Season 1: Episode 2 – What Can You Do Right Now To Remove The Alpha Mask

“The first step to shedding this mask is, in a way, just embracing that fact. Just give yourself enough gut-check moments about the kind of behavior you see around you. It isn’t enough to see it; you’ve got to see it and then have a reaction that’s more critical than complimentary.” – Lewis Howes

Honestly, your true friends don’t give a damn about how “alpha” you are.  All it takes is for a male to say that “one time” and I’ll switch him off and can him in no-time.  Alpha Males honestly pile a lot of pure pressure on their peers.  I saw my brother succumb to pure pressure back in 2000 when his friend, Brandon, told him to spoke a cigarette.  When I saw him smoking a cigarette, I was amazed.  What is this 14-year-old kid doing smoking a cigarette; let alone he’s my brother.

Now that I think of it, all of these alpha males my brother is or was friends with ultimately took him down a path he never wanted to go down.  There was a Puerto Rican, ego-maniacal friend my brother had by the name of Raf who would constantly demean me because I was the “younger” one.  The other friends my brother had at the beginning of his young adulthood had already committed crimes, or they were into drugs, smoking weed and playing videos games all day.  What my brother thought was “cool” was a disease he was slowly drowning himself in.

Now that you know the situations, now it’s time to breakdown what you can actually be free of if you remove this mask.

What does winning mean to you? What does losing mean to you? If you look at all the NFL players, they’re obsessed with winning and hate losing.  Losing is the greatest part of life…and this is how a lot of them are sucked into wearing the Alpha Mask.

I lose everyday in Thailand.  I lose at getting the typical passerby’s respect.  That’s my loss, and I love it.  I’m a man who’s not afraid of showing his emotion.  When I cross the line at the Spartan Beast later on this year, I will cry.  I’ll go on Instagram stories and show my emotions to the world, too.  That doesn’t make me any less of a man than Ray Lewis. Your self-worth shouldn’t be wrapped up in winning.

While standing in a long line in a musty old gym at Nexus International School in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, I met not just the ultra-gorgeous muslim girl, but I met this man — Hakeem Khan.  We chatted it up about him being a powerlifter and befriended each other within that time-frame of checking in to the Spartan Race.  Since then, we’ve maintained communication and I saw his Instagram exploding with an amazing amount of content.  He was changing lives through his own personal training program and so many other things, so I told myself the next time I come here, I’m going to do a podcast with him.  Here it is!

Interviewee #12 – David Mauro – The Author Who Scaled Mt. Everest

Wow! Just a story that resonated with me so much.  This was definitely the most inspiring story I’ve ever heard in my life, and it almost reduced me to tears at one point.

This man, by the name of David Mauro, combatted a number of things in his early forties: divorce, death, plummeting job, etc.  There was a moment he was sitting on the bed in his room and said to some dolls, “I don’t need your f***ing pity!”  Something fell in the kitchen downstairs at the time of the echo, too.

He then went out on a journey to Alaska, most notably, Mt Denali.  This is where the journey OFFICIALLY began.

Each mountain he climbed on all seven continents represented a pillar of “destruction.” Meaning, every time he climbed a mountain, he had to face a problem from the past.  He went to Tanzania after Alaska, after getting approval from his girlfriend at the time, and set out on an expedition where he saw some of the most beautiful, yet lethal roses, thorns and animals on planet Earth — which had its own symbolism.

The part that made me realize a lot about my past (father) was his climb up Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina.  He said it was the worst.  Yes, even worse than Everest.  He had to face something that was lying dormant in his mind for years — his father left him.  At a young age, his father disappeared, but then reappeared when his wife (another) had left him and he had dementia.

As David was climbing this mountain, he began to hallucinate.  The hallucination was basically him seeing his father as a 7-year-old kid with dementia.  At that time, he reached out to his father and put his hand on his shoulder and said some words.  This correlated with the reality that his father, who had left him a long time ago, needed his help.  This hit one of the softest spots of me because I do believe that something is still underlying about my father leaving me when I was a kid.

My Spartan Bag: Energy Gels

Now that the Spartan Race is over, I want to evaluate and see just how great these Energy Gels are.  In 2015, I didn’t have any protein bars on me or energy gels.  On that specific race in Melbourne, Australia, I almost gave up.  Was it because I lacked energy? Or lacked Will-Power in general? It could’ve been both.  However, I continued doing races without these bad boys for a couple of more years until the the Spartan Super in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

In that race I had 2 energy gels.  For the majority of that race, I was running.  I continued running for the longest of times, even after the 10km mark.  By the time the end of the race came, I felt pretty damn good!

Fast-forwarding to present day, I took yet another energy gel and felt absolutely amazing after the race.  So, I decided to make a video on this and show you guys an easy and affordable way to sustain your energy and give you a boost during your competitions.

Ramble of Positivity: Episode XXIII – Wheels Up! Vacation In Malaysia Begins!

First and foremost, I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s listening to my podcasts in Albania, Latvia, Algeria, UK, USA, Germany, India, Russia, South Africa, Austria, Netherlands, Japan and so many other countries around the world.

I want to also say thank you to my ESL Podcast listeners worldwide who have made my podcast a massive hit in only two weeks time! Big thanks to Mexico, Turkey, USA (funny how folks in USA love my podcasts), and China!.

This is a time just to be grateful for all my hardships and success.  This day, April 13th, marks the day of the Songkran festival.  This is the Thai water festival where people celebrate by splashing others with water all up and down the streets, and across the nation as a whole.

For the last three years, on the other hand, I’ve been taking vacations.  I initially took these vacations because I wanted no part of Songkran after being gravely disrespected and seeing Indians racially spewed at by Thais back in 2015.  I said, “I’ll never celebrate this festival again for as long as I live.”

When April 2016 rolled around I went to Vietnam, meeting some of the most magnificent individuals who I still keep in contact with today.

2017 was a trip back home to Arizona and a Tough Mudder.

This year….Spartan Race!

You know, at the beginning of the year, it was pretty bleak.  It was a tough transition and very emotionally exhausting going from one job to another.  Having a slew of emails come into my email box which were threats from my previous employer and removing me as a teacher from multiple classes so he can stop the cash-flow from going into my bank account, was tough to deal with.

However, this is the day that my visa is officially cancelled with that old job, and this marks the beginning of a unbelievably exhilarating lifestyle that’s going to bring so many experiences into my life.

Guys, this morning I’m going to my favorite Southeast Asian country (Malaysia) for a Spartan Race, meeting with a new content writer who’s coming on board my website, and a wedding.  I mean this is probably marking the beginning of “2018.”  All the goals I’ve written down have now come into fruition, and I really can’t wait for the wheel of life episode to let you all know you can claim that life you’ve always wanted.

Oh, on this day is the beginning of what’s going to be the most unbelievable life I could’ve ever imagined.  All these aches and pains of what has happened over the last five years have come to rest, and now this is surely the beginning.

Questions & Answers: Overcoming Betrayal & Dishonesty

Esther Perel: “many of us have had many experiences of broken trusts.  Betrayal. How do we mend? How do we bring back? How do we repair, as in pairing back? When trust is broken, it’s actually about reintegrating a new truth.  And the new trajectory for desire and once again feel safe to want.”

Esther Perel, who spoke at A-fest, said this.  It really hit me hard after going through so many things in my life, but also a brilliant question I got from one of my listeners.

“Hello, Arsenio.  I’m having trust issues with some of my colleagues.  Sometimes they say one thing, but they do the other.  They said they have work, but then they go quiet.  They’re also moody at times and we’re supposed to be forming life-long partnerships and grow professionally.  How do I go about doing that?”

Well, this is a question that I can relate to, but I need to break this down in step-by-step format to help you, rather than putting my experiences into your shoes.

When In Doubt, Check It Out

Look, we usually assume the worst when it might be bad news.  We’re simply afraid of what the answer may be.  There seems to be an ever-growing amount of assumptions that’s happening on your end, but it’s easy to assume something just by a facial expression.  I’ve seen angry teachers, staff, students.  One of the funniest things I’ve ever heard was, “I’m scared of Africans because they always look angry.”  What a stupendous assumption, right?

What you need to do is find out the cold-hard facts.  Did you really do something wrong? Example, I admitted my mistake with someone who’s an associate, but she continues to ignore me (for almost two weeks), and now I’m even thinking twice about being teamed up with her.  Why? The dishonesty is happening and I feel they’re not being 100% on so many areas.  So, I’ll call them out on it.  Man talk.  Mano y mano (hand and hand as we say in Spanish). Also, you have an option to do something about it – the situation – by helping her shift her mood.  Use some of the following phrases.

“I’m wondering if….”

“Would it be ok if….”

“Are you feeling…..”

I did this the first time with an associate and said, “come on, let’s have a talk.” She gets quiet and agitated when things don’t go her way.  When I ask her what’s wrong, she blames busyness.  However, we know there’s an underlying problem, right? That’s why this is necessary.

Technique 2 – Do You Mean

That’s right. If someone says “no” right off the back, we automatically assume that the individual is angry at us.

Example, “Arsenio, are you free on Sunday to teach a corporate class at the Exchange Tower?”

“No.”

She/he replies, “do you mean that you’re not going to be available on Sundays anymore”

I: “no, I didn’t mean that.”

She/he: “do you mean that you would rather be doing something else?”

I: “I didn’t mean that either.”

She/he: “do you mean that you’re busy on Sundays because of contract and have something going on that I don’t know about?”

I: “Yes.  That’s exactly what I mean.

Sometimes we just don’t tell the reasons behind our nos.  

When you start checking out your assumptions, you’re going to improve your communication.  You’re going to improve the relationships, quality of life, workplace atmosphere, productivity and start getting better results.

You’ll also have to look at it from a futuristic standpoint.  If they continue to be moody, distance, giving you the cold-shoulder and whatnot, is there something that you can do to salvage it? Maybe have a hearttalk? Because if not, maybe it’s best to just cut all ties.
