This is going to be excellent for a lot of you out there; whether you’re taking IELTS and trying to paraphrase the first paragraph of a task II, or just your writing in general. To paraphrase effectively, you need to change the original source material. Specialized terms can remain as they are, but you should paraphrase other language by:
- Changing passive verb forms to active verb forms, and vice versa.
- Using synonyms or different phrases that mean the same thing.
- Changing word forms.
- Changing the word order.
- Turning positive verbs to negative, and vice versa, where appropriate.
