High Fiber Foods & Why White Rice Doesn’t Work

Being from America, the country that has the most constipated citizens in the world (close to 60 million of the population), I seriously through rice was good for digestive health.

When I first started living in Thailand, my diet was absolutely horrid — consistent of fizzy drinks, 7-11 food, and constant KFC. I was afraid of eating Thai food any longer because of an immense stomach bug I had for around 5 weeks. When this happened, I began making all the wrong decisions, leading to 3-4 day constipation cycles. It wasn’t until 3-4 years ago when I start learning about healthy bacteria, probiotics, echinacea and a few other things that allowed me to achieve the healthy digestive tract that I desperately needed.

Fiber, also known as roughage, is the part of plant-based foods (grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and beans) that the body can’t break down. It passes through the body undigested, keeping your digestive system clean and healthy, easing bowel movements, and flushing cholesterol and harmful carcinogens out of the body.

Fiber comes in two varieties: insoluble and soluble.

Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water. It is the bulky fiber that helps to prevent constipation, and is found in whole grains, wheat cereals, and vegetables such as carrots, celery, and tomatoes.

Soluble fiber dissolves in water and helps control blood sugar levels and reduce cholesterol. Good sources include barley, oatmeal, beans, nuts, and fruits such as apples, berries, citrus fruits, and pears.

Many foods contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. In general, the more natural and unprocessed the food, the higher it is in fiber. There is no fiber in meat, dairy, or sugar. Refined or “white” foods, such as white bread, white rice, and pastries, have had all or most of their fiber removed.

And this is why understanding is very important when it comes to eating and rice in general. White rice has had all the fiber stripped from it. Brown rice and the other types out there have a considerable amount of fiber that will improve your overall digestive health.

So, for many American out there, how can you begin to bulk up on fiber and relieve your ever-clotting intestines? There are some ways.

Chia Seeds and Flak Seeds, which can be found in most whole-food markets, are high in omega-3 fatty acids and are known to lower cholesterol.

Most websites recommend carbohydrates, which also have good fiber….but these are also UNHEALTHY, through my eyes. Anytime I eat carbs and a lot of them, my stomach begins the back-up process.

Personally, Aloe Vera, which is the sacred nectar of the world, is my absolute favorite. If I drink this the night before and when I wake up, my digestive track works like a charm.

I’ve also boiled up carrots as part of my dinner in the evening. Make sure they’re not in the boiling hot water for too long, or all the nutrients will be wicked away. Have yourself a cucumber by your side, chop it up and gobble away.

I hope this has helped you, and if you have any pointers, comments or questions, please let me know!

Herbalife: Problems With Razor Bumps? Try This!

Well, well, well! It’s been a while since I’ve put up a Herbalife video, so here’s my next one!

Back in 2004, I was getting a haircut in the westside of Las Vegas and I told this lady, “excuse me, my faces itches after I shave.”  She said, “you shouldn’t be shaving; our skin is different from white people’s skin!”

I didn’t know what the meant at the time, but she was somewhat right.  She introduced  Skin Tight Extra Strength to me (the one in the photo) and I’ve been using that the past 14 years of my life.  Well, I’ve had this specific bottle for almost 3 years already and it’s probably just a few months away from running out.  With no friends or family willing to send me another bottle, I turned to Herbalife.

Because I’m a proud user of Herbalife, I knew that a scrub-aftershave combination could probably reduce the itching.  Not only did it do just that, but it has cleared up my skin significantly over time.

Here’s the video down below.

My Spartan Bag: Energy Gels

Now that the Spartan Race is over, I want to evaluate and see just how great these Energy Gels are.  In 2015, I didn’t have any protein bars on me or energy gels.  On that specific race in Melbourne, Australia, I almost gave up.  Was it because I lacked energy? Or lacked Will-Power in general? It could’ve been both.  However, I continued doing races without these bad boys for a couple of more years until the the Spartan Super in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

In that race I had 2 energy gels.  For the majority of that race, I was running.  I continued running for the longest of times, even after the 10km mark.  By the time the end of the race came, I felt pretty damn good!

Fast-forwarding to present day, I took yet another energy gel and felt absolutely amazing after the race.  So, I decided to make a video on this and show you guys an easy and affordable way to sustain your energy and give you a boost during your competitions.

Herbalife Blog + Video #1: Mint Chocolate/Vanilla Recipe

Welcome back to another Herbalife blog and I’m bringing to you TODAY — a recipe.

That’s right.  With a YouTube video down below, I break down the ingredients, metrics, what to put in a shake and other things to try out.

Today we’re featuring Chocolate Mint, Vanilla, and Herbalife 24’s Vanilla (endurance athletes). Also, I love to add in organic almonds, cinnamon, and a few other things (depending on what my workout was in the morning).

Without further ado, tune into the video down below and look at how much protein, carbs, etc is in each scoop of healthy meal.

Mint CHocolate

Key Benefits
  • Fiber and 17 g of protein (of which 9 g are provided by soy protein, and 8 g are provided when mixed with 8 oz. of nonfat milk) help support weight management
  • 21 vitamins and minerals
  • 170 calories when prepared as directed
  • 0 cholesterol, 0 trans fats
  • Excellent source of antioxidant Vitamins A (as beta-carotene), C and E

Creamy Vanilla

Key Benefits
  • 9 g of milk protein help support lean muscle mass
  • 90 calories
  • 1,500 mg* of L-glutamine support muscle growth and immune function
  • Healthy meal for athletes
  • Carbohydrate blend provides immediate and sustained energy
  • Antioxidant support
  • NSF Certified for Sport®†

I normally add one scoop of the vanilla, mint chocolate, and a Herbalife24 Vanilla scoop (depending on how rigorous the workout was) with some organic almonds, three teaspoons of cinnamon, and an 8 oz glass of low-fat milk.  You have to add some ice cubes, too! The thicker you want it, the more you add.  It’s all an eye test!

Herbalife’s Aloe Vera: The Second Digestive System Option + Anti-Bloating

So, I made a video on probiotics, which amassed an incredible amount of views.  Since the time I made that video until now – I haven’t made any others in regards to Herbalife, unfortunately.

However, I’m back!

I contacted my friend a while back in Australia telling her that I needed an immediate supply of probiotics.  The probiotics, being in a very small bottle, ran out in about 4-6 weeks.  After that, my stomach began to go haywire YET AGAIN!

I tried eating chia seeds, almonds, avocados (I’m totally lying about the avocados because one of them here in Thailand costs 4$), and other things to help with smooth digestion in the morning.

All failed.

So after not following through with the buying and shipping of the wondrous probiotics, I immediately needed something else that was going to help me.

It was a Tuesday morning and I went walking down the streets of Bangkok in sweltering heat, doused in sweat and discontent.  I knew if I went to Herbalife, I would find a surprise.

After getting there, I saw that they launched a series of new products, including RoseGuard (immune support) and a few others.  When I went to the counter to place my order, I looked over my shoulder and there it was….the 24 line.  I jumped up and joy, purchased it and it’s an absolute BEAST (will talk about it in a later blog). But the focus here is of course Aloe Vera, which changed my digestive tract within a six-hour period.

Are there other alternatives for it? Absolutely.  I would suggest pineapple and yogurt.  On the other hand, if you can get your hands on some of THIS?! Your digestive tract will never be the same again.

Herbalife Thailand = On Fire! Products Galore!

I was absolute ecstatic when I walked into the Herbalife Headquarters here in Bangkok Thailand this afternoon.

What I saw was a range of products I didn’t even know made way to Thailand.

For the first maybe 20 years, or whenever Herbalife first arrived in Thailand, the products were limited.  You had your typical Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry Herbalife Formula 1 Shake mixes….and that was it.  You had some tea and a few other products.  It was dry.

Until two years.  Herbalife Thailand got an introduction to the snack department with protein bars (3 flavors) bursting into the market.  There was still jut three shake flavors, but I was content to that point because the perfect timing.  Later, Chocolate Mint flavor Herbalife made it’s way, saving me a few bucks from having it get mailed from America.

Recently, just a month ago, I asked about what other flavors they had and she said, “Cookies N Creme,” another flavor I would order from America.  I screamed and jumped! This is one of my favorites…ABSOLUTE FAVORITES in terms of Herbalife Shake Mixes (still love the Pralines N Creme + Cookie Dough combo).

Something told me to head down there today to see if there were anymore products.  So, I did.  When I arrived, there’s a display of products across the window in the front before walking in.

Roseguard.

Yes, immune support tablets which I would have mailed from America. I had the BIGGEST SMILE ON MY FACE.

I walked in, looked at the product list, and chose a several things before I went to the counter.

I looked over my should about one-minute later — and there it was — Herbalife24!

It was a moment of sheer jubilance.  For those of you who are unaware of the 24 line, it’s basically for the 24-hour endurance athlete.  For example, I would take one scoop of Chocolate Peanut Butter after a workout, and with the amount of carbs in it, I would light up and get all my energy back.  So, let’s just say I have that in vanilla form now.

With Herbalife releasing an array of excellent products and boosting up their range, I can honestly see them surpassing Australia’s product range and getting to Chile’s level.

Hmmmmm……

New recipe coming soon! Stay tuned!

Career Goals For 2018

Well, this is the big one! I mean there’s Tedx, working for companies (on my own contracts), there’s the podcast, Herbalife, YouTube, selling things on my website, business cards, meetings, presentations.  Omg! I mean I really need to thing and plan this one out thoroughly.

Podcast

One of the biggest goals of course for this year is building a bigger audience. Stagnation does happen from time-to-time.  Has my podcast been on the incline? Absolutely YES.  I mean in 2016, I would be excited if I get 1-5 plays in one day.  Now that I’ve enabled downloading on my podcast, everything has taken off.  There are third-party websites picking up my podcast.  I’m on iHeartRadio and Stitcher along with dozens of others.  I bought a year-long subscription on SoundCloud to reach out to people on there and it’s all going very well.  The next big step is obviously Spotify.

I definitely need MORE INTERVIEWS! Since I’ve already established a schedule, there’s a one day void on Monday and I would love to do four interviews a month.  I have two prospectives at the moment.  One person, who I was suppose to do a podcast interview last week until technical difficulties, has gone completely silent.  Perhaps he was frustrated with the entire ordeal – and he had a reason to be. LOL. It happens.

Collaborations are extremely important.  Having people put me on their podcast and provide a link…or even attaching the link to a blog is very important.  Example, there was one particular “hollywood” personality who I got in touch with and I think she was all up for the podcast on my end; however, she then asked for $995.  I laughed because she had just a hair over 1k followers.  Smh.

YouTube

My students, at the company that recently expunged me (I love saying this – lol), looked my educational videos up on YouTube back in October.  When they did this, I realized my plays went from 2k to 3k in a months span.  Since then. My videos are at 4.6k.  I’ve looked at the geographical location and it points basically everywhere: Indonesia, Brazil, Antigua, France, Reunion, South Korea, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Switzerland.  You name it.  I couldn’t believe it because I hadn’t made an educational video in the past two years! So, I decided to make a ton of videos and I make sure content is being distributed rapidly.  I now have my graphic designer working on a new banner and a few other things.

Herbalife

I’m not one of those people that like shoving products or anything down others’ faces.  I did this probably a few years ago in trying to convince some of my friends that they should try Herbalife…and it never worked.  After that, I just didn’t care anymore.  If I could just live it, people will come.  Since then, lots of people, including co-workers and students, have asked me about the products.  No, I haven’t gone up the ranks since 2013, but I do want to take the great leap sometime in the last quarter of this year and start set up a new stream of income.

Book

Grrrrr this is the one! I was thinking of having a ghostwriter do it for me, but no one knows the story of what I went through here in Thailand more than I! I mean I have to tell it very vividly and descriptively.  I wish I had documented everything when it occurred, but I didn’t.  I just recently watched a TedX about a girl saying, “staying silent is the worse thing you can do.”  Well, I need to speak up about the experiences I’ve had in this country once and for all.  Just doing it is the catch…but if I can just brainstorm a couple of pages in the morning and make it my number one priority for the year = BINGO!

Website

The website is going to come into fruition over the next few months (before my anticipatory leave to South America), and on there will be lots of PDF’s templates and other things for my students all around the world to buy and stuff.  Luckily I have a graphic designer that’s doing amazing work at the moment; and what’s even more is I have the savings to pay for it all.  Very ecstatic and grateful for it.  Now, when this website launches, this WordPress site is going to be switched over there.  WordPress hasn’t provided me with much of anything except traffic.  Even the payment button is faulty.  If I want to sell things and plugins, I have to pay an additional 150$, which isn’t even worth it (sorry, WordPress); so I’m going to have a brilliant graphic designer build my website from scratch.  WOOHOO!

My Herbalife Story

I did this story in a podcast a long time ago, but I’ll have to write this bad boy out and post the podcast at the bottom because this, at its height, was one of the biggest business ventures that made it’s way into my life.

However, I didn’t realize it and just went at it from a healthy standpoint rather than looking to expand and grow.  So it goes something like this….

In October of 2012, I was sitting at a table in a hot gym staring at a man who looked like Bruce Leroy out of the 1985 film ‘The Last Dragon.”  Over to my right was a booth with banners with writing super imposed in big lettering “Nutrition LV.”  Of course at the time I was looking for a better source of protein and post-workout snacks, but luckily I festered up the courage towards the end(which I lacked five years ago), went over and spoke to one of the nicest women in the world.  She saw that I was dragging and asked me, “um, would you like some water? I have some orange flavored water with B vitamins.”  I took it, and the rest was history.  After coming to my senses almost instantaneously, I asked the woman, “do you have protein bars?”  She invited me over to her office.

It took me about 6 months to visit, but when I finally got there and had a tea beverage and a ridiculously delicious protein shake in the other hand – BOOM! I signed up, which was a fee of 70$ shortly later – just so I can buy my Herbalife at anytime at a discounted price.  Within the first couple of months, I increased my overall discounted rate to 35% – just before heading to Thailand. Since being here, I’ve been focusing so much more on different things, so I haven’t been doing Herbalife full-time per se.  However, it’s still something I buy on a monthly basis and have it shipped from multiple countries – because I LOVE IT.

No Shoving

What a lot of you must remember is don’t always be rescue 911.  People, especially in American society, don’t want any help.  The moment you mention anything to them comes a defence mechanism and they say, “SCAM” in the matter of seconds without knowing anything.  On the other hand, I saw that my brother had had back surgery the year before, my sisters and mother were at the very minimal overweight….so I tried helping them, only to be completely shunned by them.  Take everyone you’re trying to help off your shoulder first; then go through the door, become what it is you want to become successful at before going back to say, “uhhhhh, yeah.  Here I am? Do you think I’m still lying?”  At that point, you don’t even have to do it.

Range of Products That Help

I’m very picky with what I consume after workouts.  These days, I workout at a gym in the heart of Bangkok called “The Lab” and the workouts are fierce and relentless.  Having a typical Thai dish won’t suffice.  Having a grounded up salad for carbs and protein (based on if its focused more on fat burning than weightlifting), would, but there’s not much in the neighborhood….so an already made Herbalife shake paves the way for me.  It’s not only the shakes, but the probiotics (those who suffer from constipation – this is your god); to the best defense that has echinacea formulated in it; to the ridiculous Herbalife 24 line……pure love!

I say with utter gratitude that I’m so unbelievably thankful that one afternoon shifted the way I see healthy eating for the rest of my life.

I will still eat my hamburgers, though.

5 Days In – Herbalife Probiotics Working Like A Charm!

With a video down below, I can’t be anymore happier to introduce you to the absolute wonder of probiotics and how it promotes a healthy gut.

12-19% Americans are constipated on a routine basis.  That’s literally between 50-60 million people, as Dr. Mark Hyman has said.  Some of my students say they go to the restroom twice a week, which is unbelievably alarming because if you have lifelong constipation, that could possibly increase the risks of intestinal cancer.

After eating almonds, avocados, raisins and so many other good fats and fiber, I still didn’t have the ultimate solution to relieving myself.

Well, five days in and this bad boy works like a CHARM!

YouTube Video

Herbalife Probiotics!

Finally!

It took YEARS for probiotics to make way to Herbalife, and I’m literally welcoming it with  open arms (Mariah Carey style).  Let me give anyone and everyone a rundown of what probiotics are.

First and foremost, both Dr. Axe and Dr. Mark Hyman have gone over the fact that between 50-80% of our entire immune system is located in the gut.  So, if you’ve ever seen yourself getting sick often, look at what you’re eating.  Just recently, my sister’s stomach became inflamed, but instead of looking at what caused it, the doctors looked at it from a financial standpoint.  Sure, let’s give her pills and she’ll be fine.

However, it’s what she’s putting into her stomach which is ultimately agitating her gut.

Just to emphasize what they have said, “many people with health issues, such as thyroid imbalances, chronic fatigue, joint pain, psoriasis, autism and many other conditions don’t realize that these illnesses originate in the gut.”

On top of that, 60-70 million people in America alone are affected by digestive diseases.

That’s terrifying!

What Are Probiotics?

Probiotics are bacteria that line your digestive tract and support your body’s ability to absorb nutrients and fight infection. There are actually 10 times more probiotics in your gut than cells in your body.

Your skin and digestive system by themselves host about 2,000 different types of bacteria. Probiotics benefits have been proven effective in supporting immune function and healthy digestion, as well as beautiful skin.

Your good gut bacteria is also responsible for:

  • Producing vitamin B12, butyrate and vitamin K2
  • Crowding out bad bacteria, yeast and fungi

And I can go on to name so many other things, but I think you get the drift.

If you don’t have enough probiotics, the side effects can include digestive disorders, skin issues, frequent colds and flus.  Are you one of these sufferers?

Historically, we had plenty of probiotics in our diets from eating fresh foods from good soil and by fermenting our foods to keep them from spoiling.

Because of refrigeration and dangerous agricultural practices like soaking our foods with chlorine, our food contains little to no probiotics today, and most foods actually contain dangerous antibiotics that kill off the good bacteria in our bodies. – Dr. Axe

By adding more probiotic foods into your diet, you could see all of the following probiotics benefits:

  • Stronger immune system
  • Improved digestion
  • Increased energy from production of vitamin B12
  • Better breath because probiotics destroy candida
  • Healthier skin
  • Reduced cold and flu
  • Healing leaky gut syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease
  • Weight loss

Inflammatory bowel disease.  That rings a bell in terms of what my sister is going through right now.

AND ALAS! Herbalife has their very own probiotics recipe! Here are the contents listed on the label.

Overview
Simply Probiotic is a daily, science-backed probiotic that provides 1 billion active probiotic organisms, which promote digestive health. It is formulated with a powerful CFU GanedenBC30®* probiotic, which is a bacillus coagulans GBI-30 6086, that aids in carbohydrate and protein digestion. This probiotic is tough enough to survive the gastric journey to get to where it counts, helping you feel your best every day.
Key Benefits
  • Delivers 1 billion active probiotic organisms per serving
  • Up to 70% of BC30 cells survive to colonize the gut
  • Helps provide balance to good and bad bacteria (improving the gut bacteria profile)
  • Aids in carbohydrate and protein digestion
  • Made with non-GM ingredients
  • Zero calories
  • No added flavours, colors, sugars or sweeteners
  • Portable, perfect for on-the-go use

So, for those who are constantly having stomach issues, such as myself (because apparently I don’t eat enough vegetables), probiotics are absolutely vital in maintaining a healthy gut.
