Positive Mental Attitude: Season 2 – Episode 14 – Rest is VASTLY Important & Underrated

“Dr. Cureton taught Roger Bannister that “the more the body endures, the more it will endure.” Beliefs about “overtraining” and “staleness,” he says, are myths.
But he emphasizes that rest is as important as exercise and activity. The body needs to rebuild in even larger quantities what has been torn down in exercise. That’s how strength, vitality, energy are developed. The body and mind both recharge themselves during periods of rest and relaxation. If you don’t give them a chance to do so, severe damage—and even death—can result.

Is it time to recharge your battery? There’s no glory in being the richest man in the graveyard. You don’t want to be the best scientist, doctor, executive, salesman, or employee lying—prematurely—under the most ornate headstone. A loved mother, wife, father, son, or daughter can bring happiness. Why then, bring grief, instead? The myth of hustling can really kill some people.  Some people need just four hours, five hours, and six hours of sleep.  So, this brings me to my next statement: Gary Vee does an unbelievable job! For him to NEVER GET SICK and to only get four hours of sleep while having an insane amount of energy — is unbelievable.

I just don’t know how he does it…but let’s just call him immortal for a second.

Your body needs rest.  Your mind needs rest.  We can often get overwhelmed by social media and different things happening in our inner and outer circles.  Sometimes you HAVE to take some time off people, media, etc (as Jim Kwik has said) to recharge your mind.  Tim Ferriss has also left his phone inside his car an entire weekend. Hell, I remember going hiking in 2008 and I was away from all MEDIA for 2.5 days.  I thought I was going to die, and that was in 2008!  YouTube was at its infancy stage and FB was TERRIBLE.

Now, I can do it much easier.  When it comes to working out, there are times I go for a push.  this week, there is the 3 workout classes and an insane jog.  This is because I’m now two months away from a MASSIVE competition. However, because I’m doing this much damage to my body, I’ve decreased my overall workload (teaching) and I teach between 2-6 hours a day during the week (weekends being the busiest days).  I take naps in the afternoon and I’m getting more frequent massages.  Listen to your body!

It’s time.  I remember going over this a while back, but this is perfect timing to go over this AGAIN. I love talking about this because it’s important.  If you’re waking up, dragging yourself out of bed and saying, “ohhhh this again!” your life is finished.  Seriously, take a step back and reevaluate your life.  Most people die Monday morning in America.  Why? They’re going to a job that’s absolute dog shit.  But when you know your job is dog shit, you’re aware, right? So if you’re aware, you now have the power to do something about it.

“If you believe you can do it,” says Vernon Wolfe, “most of the time you can. It’s mind over matter.”
You have two types of energy. One is physical, the other is mental and spiritual. The latter is by far the more important, for from your subconscious mind you can draw vast power and strength in time of need.
Think, for example, of the great feats of strength and endurance you’ve read about people performing while under the stress of intense emotion. There is an automobile accident and a husband is pinned under the overturned car. In her moment of fear and determination, his tiny and frail wife manages to raise the car enough to free him! Confucius once said, “The Man who says he can, and the man who says he can not.. Are both correct.”

That’s how powerful the mind is.  If you want a sudden burst of energy, how about standing up instead of slouching over? How about thinking of the next morning, day, week….something that will inject adrenaline inside of you.  Read a quote or listen to something for two minutes.  Shake it off or do some jumping jacks.  Again, this is momentary energy and you want something more constant….you need a ROUTINE!

Why do I wake up and destroy my body every morning? It’s the perfect time to do it.  I wake up, post my podcast episodes, blogs, respond to messages, Instagram videos and messages and I take off running.  My mornings are prime-time for me.

Reading that part of the book made me tear up.  It reminded me of the time when Tony was driving a car, miserably, down the streets of some city in America before pulling over, turning on the overhead light in the car and writing down on a notepad “the secret to living is giving.”

He began to cry, too.

That insatiable feeling of wanting to give all the time, as much as I can — everyday.

Nathan, an American born teacher who’s now teaching in Aktobe, Kazakhstan, told me that I always inject a burst of energy, positivity and hunger inside of him when he hears and watches my 1-minute Instagram stories in the morning.  See, that’s my inspiration.

The students, from all countries around the world, who rain me with “thank you so much! You helped me pass my IELTS test!” types of comments, are my alchemy.

I didn’t know so much about giving when I was younger. I didn’t know that it was my goal to give, to be honest.  However, I feel a remarkable amount of fulfillment since doing it.  Starting the podcast, getting students scores on particular tests to get a better job or to get into a university across the globe.  That’s what it’s all about!

I can write a book on job satisfaction.  Honestly, this is a tough one to crack.  Can you actually find satisfaction in your job if you hate it? No.  Let me give a rundown of some of my jobs.

Crows Nest, Australia – October 2011

There was a lady (if she’s still there) named Philippa Sawyer.  She’s the second most ruthless “boss” I ever had in my life.  Nothing was EVER enough, and now thinking back at it, one can cry racism or nationalism (me being America), but it wasn’t only me.  Some of the staff fell into depression and ended up crying in the break room because of her.  Not only that, but there was a remarkable nurse who worked across the hall in her Dental Anesthetist Suite who was also crying because the pressure and ignorance from Philippa.  I remember one day I went in with the strongest PMA one could ever imagine, and she still broke me down.  I sent the practice manager a message and gave her a 1-2 week notice.  I no longer cared about the money.  My life was quickly deteriorating around me.  I was trying so hard to maintain a positive mindset, but there was no chance, so I quit.  This was a massive decision, but I did end up getting hired at a dental temp agency and fortunately, I was able to get some sporadic work over the next 6 months until my visa ended.

Lesson: No matter how hard you try, if there’s constant pressure and being quitting around you, there’s a significant, underlying issue at your place of work.

Chanthaburi, Thailand – Private School

Honestly, I don’t remember one happy day here.  Before I had even come here to Thailand, the boss threatened me.  That’s right.  I saw a sneak peak of her insidious agenda.  When I went to Pratunam Mall in Ratchathewi on day 3 of living here in Thailand, I FELT that energy.  I looked at her and she was the definition of evil.  There’s no other way I can sugar coat it.  There wasn’t a warm welcome, which most schools would do.  It was a rawrrrrr, following 4 months of sheer hell.  The amount of ignorance, speaking down on me, calling me a black ******** and so many other things….was unbearable.  So, I slipped up and told a teacher that I was leaving, and she started bawling.  All the parents came and urged me to stay, but I just couldn’t.  The last day I got paid for instruction was the end of September, and my next garbage, $600 dollar check would’ve come another 60 days later.  Already having just a little bit in my savings, I needed to take a leap of faith and head to the south of Thailand.  I did, got an increased wage of 80%, and the rest was history.

All in all, it wasn’t just the job, it was the entire province.  It was ruthless.  I felt the 100% of “we hate black people” racist in this particular province.  It was difficult as HELL.

  • To be honest, it’s hard to market if we use a black guy.
  • Why did you put the black teacher in the photo?
  • To be honest, he’s already black, so it’s difficult to give him work already.
  • I don’t think you’re good enough.
  • I don’t want a black teacher.
  • Black bastard.
  • White men are better.
  • Your grammar is terrible.

Welcome to hell.  Amazing how I put up with this for 3.5 years before getting removed from Toshiba (an outsourced company) and they simply didn’t want a black teacher anymore.  It was shocking.  It’s good to finally air these things out, because looking back at it, I was insane for choosing complacency over the benefit of my health!

At the beginning of this year, I got chest pains and anxiety going to work. I was terrified.  I remember going up the escalators wondering, “what are they going to complain about today?”  I had a foreshadowing back in 2016 — blackmail from a sex tourist/pedaphile turned verbal warning and (don’t use our equipment for your YouTube videos anymore) almost getting fired because I was speaking the truth.  Arsenio, why didn’t you leave then?

I was comfortable being uncomfortable. I didn’t think a soul was going to hire me outside because I already had known about racial discrimination here in Thailand.

Well, fortunately enough, I got removed from Toshiba, threatened and belittled by a British Thug of a coordinator, and that was the end.  Job offers came in from 4 countries on three continents and my mind was already outside of the language center.

Guys, what can you learn from this blog? You can’t make things work that aren’t working.  It doesn’t matter how much PMA you have.  If you’re not happy, feeling anxiety, stress, depression on every level of your being, LEAVE!!!!!

Positive Mental Attitude: Season 2 – Episode 7 – Attract Wealth — Don’t Repel It – Part II – Goal-setting

Everyone has to understand that goal-setting is the most important aspect of attracting wealth.  When I got complacent in 2015, I was just “content” with making the same salary I had already been making the previous x amount of months.  I no longer had goals.

It wasn’t until one day I saw Jack Canfield’s book ‘how to use the law of attraction’ on a bookshelf in a shopping plaza that I started setting goals for myself.

101 Goals was initiated — 70 have been claimed.

There was an exercise in that book that encouraged readers to write down their 101 goals….so I did (spoke about it in my podcast).  Since then, I’ve achieved more than 70 of those goals, pushing me to the brink of a new list.  When you throw goals on the paper and commit to action, those goals will be achieved, unconsciously.  That’s what happened one afternoon while glancing over the page.  I realized I achieved 10 of those goals a year after writing them down and I didn’t even know it.

Napoleon Hill’s Way of Setting Goals

“(a) Write down your goal. You will then begin to crystallize your thinking. The very act of thinking as you write will have a tendency to create an indelible impression in your memory.

(b) Give yourself a deadline. Specify a time for achieving your objective. This is important in motivating you: set out in the direction of your goal and keep moving toward it.

(c) Set your standards high. Now there seems to be a direct relationship between ease in achieving a goal and the strength of your motives. You have discovered for yourself in Chapter Nine how to motivate yourself at will and in Chapter Ten how to motivate others.”

And the higher you set your major goal, generally speaking, the more concentrated will be the effort you make to achieve it. The reason: logic will make it mandatory that you at least aim at an intermediate objective as well as an immediate one. So aim higher. And then have immediate and intermediate steps leading toward its achievement.

The following question should stimulate your thinking: Where will you be and what will you be doing ten years from today if you keep doing what you are doing now?

(d) Aim high. It is a peculiar thing that no more effort is required to aim high in life, to demand prosperity and abundance, than is required to accept misery and poverty.”

The excuses such as “I had an idea but didn’t have money,” are a done-deal.  Let those excuses go….because the internet doesn’t care what your circumstances are, it just wants action.

 

 

Positive Mental Attitude: Season 2 – Episode 6 – Attract Wealth — Don’t Repel It

“Whoever you are—regardless of your age, your education, or your occupation—you can attract wealth. You can also repel it. We say: “Attract—don’t repel—wealth.” – Napoleon Hill

Ok, I went on a beautiful rant just last episode about not being rich in pockets, but more in legacy.  Keep that in mind for the rest of your life because I do hold true to those words.  Now, for the rest of you who really want to attract wealth — STOP REPELLING!

George Stefek, who was in a hospital bed for some time, used that time to “think.”  See, a lot of people don’t think, learn, grow, and share knowledge.  This leads to you not becoming resourceful.  Let me give you a story of his (in the podcast) and mine.

I thought I was worth a lot more when I was younger, but none of my actions and learning was matching my words.  My first job was $600 USD, and I didn’t learn a damn thing throughout those five months.  Next job was $1000 USD, but again, wasn’t learning and growing as a teacher and got very discontent rather quickly.  So, when I moved to bKK, I challenged myself.  I never picked up legitimate grammar, business, academic writing, and test prep books in my life.  I was told to teach a student “TOEIC”, and at the time, I didn’t know how to explain to her “why” the answer was “deception” instead of deceit, deceitful, and deceptive.”

However, since learning and teaching so much, I’ve becoming remarkably resourceful and my pay per hour, on my own terms, have exceeded my expectations (and will continue doing so).  I was repelling by not learning more.

Positive Mental Attitude: Season 2 – Episode 5: Is There a Shortcut to Riches?

Unless you hit the lottery (and some people do) or get “lucky,” success is a flight of stairs — ALL THE WAY to the top.  A lot of people think they can become millionaires quick, but that’s not how it works.

So, this is a very interesting topic because the entire world is looking to attract riches, yet their actions don’t match up with what they’re envisioning.

Bob Proctor did a recent interview and asked the interviewer, “how much money do you want?”  The interviewer said, “a lot.” Bob then told him that your subconscious mind doesn’t know what a lot is.

That makes a lot of sense, right?

John A, a man who was in the secret, said there’s a fundamental flaw with the movie.  You cannot just sit in a chair and envision riches coming into your life.  However, the feelings emanating can create a positive mental attitude.  Getting rid of negative condition can mean going into the deepest parts of your mind to clear the cobwebs.  That negative blueprint of money is what has a lot of people sinking.

When it comes to talk about being rich…

…..you’re rich for what you do, not for what you obtain.  What you do for other people, without any expectation, is the legacy creator.

Shaquille O’Neal wasted 1 million in one day because he got carried away with the old-world “rich.”  Kate Spade and Anthony were millionaires and famous before claiming their lives…again, they had all the money in the world but took their lives.  Were they doing for others? Boom.  Your life-work as of the most absolute importance.

 

 

Positive Mental Attitude: Season 2 – Episode 4: How To Motivate Others (2/2)

I remember wanting to motivate a “god sister” of mine to travel the world (on my last day in America back in May of 2013), and she said I was going to die of HIV in Thailand.  Typical response from a dead-beat human being who’s 250 lbs over her healthy weight.  It was the definition of of jealousy — a word that had ran deep (and still does) in the bloodlines of my “family.”  I said some things, went upstairs, turned the water on in the shower, put my headphones on and waiting for them to go. I heard the knocking and screams, “Arsenio, she wants to say bye to you!” I’m sorry, I think she’s said everything for the rest of her life to me.  Good riddance!

When it comes to motivating others, you can’t always win.  You will take some blows to the face, even from your own family, but you have to become aware and say, “ok, this person doesn’t want help from me.  Goodbye.”  This also relates to the Rescue 911 that Lisa Nichols talked about.  You can’t just have people hop on your shoulder and rescue them.  Let them come to you.

Some teachers, townspeople and others don’t want motivation.  There are prostitutes here in Thailand that continue to live that dangerous lifestyle….but they don’t want to hear the sex tourist’s motivational pep talks in terms of “you don’t have to work in a bar!”

Don’t be rescue 911!

Figuring this out about people who you DO want to motivate, is important.  If you try motivating someone who doesn’t want to hear it, it will ultimately backfire on you.

“Do you want to feel enthusiastic?
Yes.
Then learn the self-motivator: To be enthusiastic act enthusiastic. Now repeat this phrase.
To be enthusiastic act enthusiastic.
Right! What is the key word in the affirmation?
Act.
That’s right. Let’s paraphrase the message and thus you will learn the principle and be able to relate and assimilate it into your own life. If you want to be sick, what do you do?
Act sick.
You’re right. If you want to be melancholy, what do you do?
Act melancholy.
Right again! And if you want to be enthusiastic, what do you do?
To be enthusiastic—act enthusiastic.”

I’ve told people this so many times before.  If you want to be depressed, act depressed! If you want to be lonely, feel lonely!  It’s all based on the human condition and the mind. The mind doesn’t know what the hell loneliness or depression is, it simply reacts to everything you feel.

“1. Talk loudly! This is particularly necessary if you are emotionally upset, if you are shaking inside when you stand before an audience, if you have “butterflies in your stomach.”
2. Talk rapidly! Your mind functions more quickly when you do. You can read two books with greater understanding in the time you now read one if you concentrate and read with rapidity.
3. Emphasize! Emphasize important words, words that are important to you or your listening audience—a word like you, for example.
4. Hesitate! When you talk rapidly, hesitate where there would be a period, comma, or other punctuation in the written word. Thus you employ the dramatic effect of silence. The mind of the person who is listening catches up with the thoughts you have expressed. Hesitation after a word which you wish to emphasize accentuates the emphasis.
5. Keep a smile in your voice! Thus in talking loudly and rapidly, you eliminate gruffness. You can put a smile in your voice by putting a smile on your face, a smile in your eyes.”

This revolves around speaking, but can also relate to speaking with impeccability.  With everyone you come in contact with, you have the ability to sway them into a state of love or chaos — purely predicated on your words.

Positive Mental Attitude: Season 2 – Episode 3: How To Motivate Others (1/2)

How can you motivate others? How can you motivate others who don’t want motivation? How can a parent motivate a child and vice versa?

These are some questions that have been hanging over my head for years.  My mother never motivated me to learn Spanish.  My father never motivated me to learn about personal development.  My father, quite frankly, didn’t do a god damn thing.  I’ve made that very apparent over recent years, but sitting here looking back now I actually wonder how I was able to motivate myself — and why am I motivating others today?

“It is important to know how to motivate others in an effective manner and in a desirable direction. Throughout life you play dual parts in which you motivate others and they motivate you: parent and child, teacher and pupil, salesman and buyer, master and servant—you take each part.
How a child motivated his father. A boy two-and-one-half years of age was walking with his father after a very heavy Christmas Day dinner. When they had walked about a block and a half, the youngster stopped, looked up at his father with a smile, and said: “Daddy …” then hesitated. His father responded, “Yes?” The boy paused for a second or two and continued, “If you say please, I’ll let you carry me.” Now, who could resist this type of motivation? Even a new-born baby motivates his parents to action.”

Napoleon Hill was dealing with a tragedy for so many years and his family thought he was broken.

When I tried motivating my family after I came back from Australia, they wanted to part.  They always went back to the same, bickering, “I hate life” type of lifestyle.  My brother and I almost got into a fist fight because I tried motivating him by telling him that he was in charge of his life and that with the law of attraction, everything that has happened in the past cane become undone.

I have to really look back to the point where everything began to “change.”  When did I start MOTIVATING people around me? Was it Australia? No.  I think my first real jump into motivation was when I came back from Australia, landed at McCarran International Airport, and then walked back into the living room of my house after a year — only to see my younger sister, who I’ve never had a nice relationship with, sitting and waiting for me to spur her on.  In that moment I lectured her about leaving the country.  It was a 20 minute conversation of pure love and soul from my heart — a connection I never once had with an already deteriorated relationship with her.

Throughout my dental assisting career, there was hardly anything that was inspirational.  Hell, when I tried motivating a very pedantic, inconsiderate and cold worker back then, she would get super angry at me and say I was “flaunting” that I had been abroad before.  From that moment forward, I did somewhat have it in my blood to give me experiences to others in a very positive way.

“When you want to motivate, say it with an inspirational, self-help action book. The most important factors to success in selling are, in order of importance: (a) inspiration to action; (b) knowledge of a successful sales technique for the particular product or service—which is termed know-how ; and (c) knowledge of the product or service itself, activity knowledge. Now, these same three principles can be related to success in any business or profession.
In the story that you have just read you can assume that the salesman had knowledge of the sales know-how and knowledge of the service he was selling. But he did lack the most important ingredient—inspiration to action.”
