Questions & Answers: Why Stay In Thailand, Arsenio?

What a follow-up  question from one of my new friends (not sure how long she’ll be around, but I’m grateful and humble – lol).

So, Arsenio….why do you continue to stay in Thailand, even though all the noise has been happening for years?

What Other Countries Are There?

Honestly, if I had ever moved back to America, that would be like taking 5-years-of-steps in the wrong direction.  I just can’t see myself living in an environment like that anymore.  No offence to all of the Americans who live in America and continue living there, but I think it’s too much of a “sports” nation – like England.  I don’t want to be around people who say, “are you going to watch the game?” Yeah, I’m going to spend 3 hours wasting my life away, watching commercials and other men play a sport whereas they’re making millions and I’m not.  I hate to really put it that way, but it’s the perspective I have now.  Do you know what I can do in 3 hours?! I can do two podcasts, message 50 influencers, make connections, create tests, write blogs and do a bunch of other things.  So, that’s one of the areas that really scares the s*** out of me.  Visiting America is perfectly fine, but going back to live is an absolute NO.

Then I thought about the other countries.  The likes of Chile, Costa Rica and Honduras.  In these countries, I wouldn’t get paid no more than 1000$ USD.  Am I in it for the money? No, but overhead in terms of blogs and potential employees…this wouldn’t be good.  However, at the end of the year, it could definitely go up considerably because I’ll set up multiple sources of income, giving myself lead-way in terms of having other employees on board.

I also considered Mongolia and other countries in Central Asia, but the climate is a bit daunting and not much opportunity.

In addition, I was thinking China (only for a few months) to somehow extend my brand.  That’s definitely still something I would consider.  If I can get into an organization or even teach at a language center for three months, I can absolutely win an audience.

The Excitement

What other countries do you have people committing sexual acts in public?! I’m kidding.   No, I’m not.  It’s the truth – lol.  Ok, all sex acts aside, the journey that i go on everyday is just incredible.  I LOVE IT! Let’s look at Friday, for instance.

Kick-off running on my side of the river, zigging and zagging through traffic and having onlookers staring in awe.  Go up about 4 flights of stairs to get to the top of the bridge and run over the river – the biggest river in Thailand.  Get to the other side and NOW THE EXCITEMENT HAPPENS. There’s no slowing down when there are business people staring.  By the time I’m finished — with the 10km run — I get some protein at my gym (stop-in), and head home.  I then have a class at 11am in the epicenter, then I take a skytrain, subway, and motorcycle taxi to teach a doctor in a super-posh neighborhood.  After that, I hike it back home through transportation, meeting loads of people, and get home .  I mean there’s just so much going on and that’s just SUPER EXCITING.

Opportunity

I go where the opportunity is.  If I believe the opportunity runs out in Thailand, it’ll be time for me to pack my bags and head to another part of the world.  If I look at what China has to offer (terribly polluted environment) or any other southeast Asian country, they just don’t stack up to Thailand, a country where anything goes.  This is why I continue to stay.

How To Crowd Worry Out of Your Mind – Part II

I talked about this in a podcast a long time ago, but I want to speak how I use this particular technique in a real-life situation.

Long ago, there was a man that lost two children under the age of find.  Him being in a vice/guillotine that seemed to get tighter and tighter, he found himself in a decision whereas he was going to either turn down his boy, who hadn’t died and needed his support, or play with him and create something out of some toys.

So, he decided to play with him.  He didn’t want to be bothered at the time because he was emotionally distraught, as one would be.  However, in those three hours that he played with his boy, there was a sudden mental relaxation that came over him.  How? He crowded his mind by being busy.

So over the past couple days, you guys probably didn’t know, but I’ve been a rut of worry.  If you’ve ever seen a person with rolled-over shoulders, walking with their head down…that’d be me.  I’ve been very disconcert over the past few weeks because of not knowing my future in finding new work.  Last night I hit a new low in teaching one of my students.  I remember looking at the worst-case-scenario “opportunity” go away right before my eyes.  I then said, “oh, man! No friends; no family; no options…..Arsenio, what’s next?”  I kept scanning job boards and none of them were showing anything, although I was applying for virtually all of them out of pure desperation.  So, I decided to apply for this particular job and I was a bit amazed at the response time – 5 minutes.  That’s right, I applied with a student sitting in front of me and almost in an instant, the response came back — in voice form.  I answered, remained composed (even though I wanted to jump out of my skin), was told a story (the opening up of a human being to another human being) and landed an interview, which will prove to be a monumental success.

In an instant, that worry was gone.  Not because of a call, but also because the comments of one of the parents.  He said, “there are plenty of jobs in Bangkok.  Just be patient.”

I was more worried about my personal wants than giving.  This is why so much of humanity fail.

In the following morning (this morning), I was listening to Tony Robbins say, “if you’re unhappy with your workplace, change it.  If you say there aren’t any jobs out there, that’s bull.”

This is something I always tell myself because of victimization.  I know damn well there are jobs out there, but the fact is I keep telling myself there aren’t because of everything that has happened in my life here.

With an interview looming large and opportunities and views coming in from all cylinders, I must keep myself busy.  Sometimes and especially at home, I get caught up in my own thoughts about “money.”  On the other hand, I just checked my bank account for the first time in forever and realized, “omg, wtfffffff am I even worried about?”

The future.

But the future is uncertain for everyone.  Everything can be taken away at the blink of an eye.

Your job today is to keep yourself busy.  Not with survival busyness, but constantly creating and deploying patience.  You will prevail.

The Rant of 2017

If you’re pointing fingers at the past, Donald Trump, Republicans, North Korea, Thai people (lol) or anyone else for that matter to why you’re not successful, you suck.  Well, I don’t want to say you suck, because you technically don’t, but if you post implicit comments targeting groups of minorities or majorities in terms of dropping their defenses….YOU REALLY SUCK.

I’ll give you the cold-hard truth.  We’re one day away from 2018 and with the exception of developing countries, the world has exceedingly evolved into something magnificent.  We’re living in one of the most opportunistic ages in human kind.  The device in your pocket can make you create vlogs, written, and audio forms of content.  If you’re living in an exotic country like Kazakhstan, Morocco, American Samoa, Tuvalu, Brunei, Luxembourg and you’re not documenting your life, you’re missing out.

If you’re reading my blogs from Bulgaria, Romania, France; and listening to my podcasts from Singapore, Japan, Indonesia and other places….why not take what I’m giving and put it into your language? I know audio hasn’t taken over in these countries such as what’s happening right now in America….but it will.  We’re going to be multi-tasking beings.  While brushing our teeth, we’re going to be listening to podcasts to help us with self-improvement and different areas of our life.  Video is slowly declining because no one wants to sit in front of a screen anymore when they can be doing 3 things at once.

What I’m telling you and imploring you to do is to (1), stop bitching.  Stop trying to slander your fellow samaritans.  Yes, I blew up a week ago at a convenient store because I won’t be made a mockery of, and the blowup was super funny because they went from laughing to mad as hell (hahahahaha)….but what I’m trying to say is if you go on Twitter, follow Donald Trump (and you hate him), talk about taxes and things you can’t control….2018 is in repeat form.  Form better habits and stop complaining!

This is the era of opportunity.  If you’re reading this, start making a difference.  Develop habits that suit you in your definite chief-aim and develop the burning desire to go after it with all your might! Not tomorrow….but today is the beginning.

It’s Just A Matter of Time – Stay Persistent & Grateful

Yesterday was one of those days that I was completely down-in-the-dumps for no reason. I was on the bike trying to pick up the intensity like the day before – only to be thinking about what’s happening at work.

What’s happening at work?

Nothing.

However, when I waltzed into the workplace, I knew the energy was off.  No one was saying anything.  No “hellos” or anything was happening.  So I just said, “ok, it’s going to be one of those days.”  After my two classes, I scampered off, went back home and just feel like the life was sucked out of me.

It felt almost to the point that I was off track with my purpose.  This has happened a couple of times.  When I check my feelings and ‘degree’ of worry, there’s nothing looming.  So, what was this that I’m feeling? Well, when I’m off track with my purpose, that inner-guidance system sends a message throughout my body saying, “hey, get back on track! Get focused and be grateful for what you have!”

However, this can’t happen everyday.  I’m not a perfectionist….so I decided to sleep as early as 5:45pm before waking up several times between 6pm and 5am.  When I woke up, a picture struck me.

image1 2

And this was it! It was like the friend I never heard chirping in my ear saying, “stop worrying about why your podcast hasn’t taken off yet; why you haven’t got the opportunity of a lifetime in Bangkok; why you didn’t get this job opportunity or that one!”

This is how it always starts.  You start from the very beginning; and because we don’t reap those immediate rewards, we get discouraged almost immediately and give up.  How many failed podcasts are out there? How many people are producing more content than me?  How about blogs? Websites? YouTube videos? TOEIC and IELTS videos? Wise up, Arsenio….you’re doing an outstanding job and your friend Deeptha phrased you as a “content machine” just yesterday.  However, because you’re not getting more gratification from the outside world, you’re hard on yourself.

See, that’s myself talking to myself.  It’s time to take a step back, look at what you’ve become so far, and be grateful as hell.  We’re not always going to get the immediate and instant gratification from the world, but those handful of people, especially in countries like Uganda, Switzerland, France, Belgium, South Africa, Iran and Singapore need you, Arsenio! So keep your soul on fire and ignore your personal wants!

BOOM!

Napoleon Hill – Imagination: Part 2

“If your imagination is the mirror of your soul, then you have a perfect right to stand before that mirror and see yourself as you wish to be.  You have the right to see reflected in that magic mirror the mansion you intend to own, the factory you intend to manage, the bank of which you intend to be president, the station in life you intend to occupy.  Your imagination belongs to you! Use it! The more you use it the more efficiently it will serve you.” – Napoleon Hill

A man of imagination went to a city long ago to make money out of real estate.  He got an option on a couple of hills that were unsuitable for real estate due to the steepness of them.  He also had another option on the ground that was unsuitable for use because of the back-water that covered it daily.  So, in the end, he secured both of the options for super cheap because the literal mind thought both didn’t have any substantial value.

However, with a few tons of explosives, he turned those steep hills into loose dirt.  With the aid of some tractors and road scrapers, he used the ground for beautiful building lots.  Also, with the help of cattle and livestock, he dumped the surplus of dirt on the low ground and raised it above the water level, thereby turning it into beautiful building lots.

He made a substantial fortune, for what?

For removing some dirt from where it was not needed to where it was needed! For mixing some useless dirt with imagination.

Another story would be a man purchasing land on top of a hill.  This man was dirt cheap and the owner of the land was selling it for little-to-nothing, just because the imagination with the man selling it wasn’t there.  So, this man, who barely had any money to his name, purchased that piece of land and built a log cabin that became very profitable because the view of both sides of the mountain.  Later, it turned into a half dozen.  Then, he built a minimart and a few other things to accompany it.  That man amassed a FORTUNE over just pennies by using his imagination.

If you properly use your imagination it will help you convert your failures and mistakes into assets of priceless value; it will lead you to discovery of a truth known only to those who use their imagination; namely, that the greatest reverses and misfortunes of life often open the door to golden opportunities.

You will never know what is your capacity for achievement until you learn how to mix your efforts with imagination.  The products of your hands, minus imagination, will yield you but a small return, but those selfsame hands, when properly guided by imagination, can be made to earn you all the material wealth you can use.

Napoleon Hill – How To Overcome The Fear of Poverty

First, scissor up those plastic cards that lay either idle, or accessible in your wallets and purses.  It’s time to pay virtually cash for everything.  Oh, and this comment is specifically for my Thais here in Thailand – DON’T PAY OFF DEBT WITH CREDIT CARDS! Makes zero sense.

When you start doing this, the sigh of relief will be an overwhelming feeling of joy.  Breaking away from the worrisome and indebtedness so that you’re ready to revamp the habits in your mind and re-direct your course toward prosperity is going to be one of the best achievements of your life.

Remember, when you discontinue an undesirable habit, know that their will be a void or space in the mind that will need some accompanying.  If you don’t occupy that free-space, what will come back?

You guessed right!

The destructive habit that you kicked before.

I’ve talked about a couple of formulas which I told you to copy, paste, print, and recite aloud. There are more formulas approaching very soon…and these formulas will become a part of your mental machinery.

I’m assuming that because you’re reading this…you’re somewhat striving for financial independence.  No, I’m not talking about those ridiculous “how to become a millionaire and billionaire” over-the-top videos you see on YouTube.  I’m talking about the accumulation of money to where you don’t worry about your finances – period.  It’s not difficult to do after you master the Fear of Poverty and developed in its place the Habit of Saving.

The fact and matter is that the cold, cruel, relentless truth is that we’re in the age of materialism.  We’re in the age that showing cars, houses, and everything materialistic gives you an upper hand over other people.  Just look at it this way, if you see a man wearing a suit jut waltzing down the street, you would ask yourself “how much money does he have,” right? However, if you see a man walking down the street with his clothes unpressed, his collar is dirty, shoes scuffed up, and not clean-shaved…you’re probably thinking that he shows signs of impoverished finances.

This tendency to judge people by the money they have, or their power to control money, is not confined to any one class of people.  We all have a touch of it, whether we recognize the fact or not.  Egoism, which I’ll be going over extensively in the coming weeks, is closely related to materialism.  We have to learn to break away from the “I’m better than you because I have more money” bs so we can uplift humanity.

And before I close this out, a lot of men stumble and fall, never again to rise, because of lack of money in times of emergency.  Reserve Funds are essential in the success operation of business! These are all the topics and things I discussed in my podcast down below.  Enjoy!

Lisa Nichols – Leave The Legacy

“How will you live every day, and how will you impact people for the better—improving the world for others who’ll (hopefully) take up your work when you are compelled to pass the torch?” – Lisa Nichols

If you look at some of the most iconic figures in the 20th century in America, to the late 20th century in South Africa.  Those who made an unbelievable sacrifice to better the lives for the next generations to come.

On the other hand, our individual accolades is all we can control.  First, we have to be the difference we want to see in the world.  It’s kind of like the colleague that complains endlessly about everything but doesn’t provide any solutions.  The “circle of influence” is all we can control.  If we start taking those micro win steps that ultimately lead to small goals, which then leads to the macro win goals….it will give us long-term momentum to the point we want to achieve goals ALL THE TIME because of the feeling.

I love using the reference about the two school students at an International School who provided a small village in Cambodia clean water, food, and a school to learn English. These two unique individuals have made a loud entrance to creating a legacy, and they will continue supporting and improving the lives of others who seemingly can’t create anything given their situations.

“What does it mean to live your legacy? It requires amassing financial wealth, of course. But it also suggests that you should fill your life with a passionate career, rewarding experiences, nurturing relationships, supportive friendships, a beautiful home where you and family can renew and restore, hobbies and shared opportunities that bring you together with evolved and aware people, philanthropies and charities that you establish or support, traditions that you start—the sum total of a rich and rewarding lifestyle that you enjoy and that provides countless opportunities to bring others along with you.

When you complete this life, how will people view the mission, the activities, and the connections that you pursued? How will those you’ve carried along with you use these assets after you are gone to further your work and adopt your dreams as their own?

Have you ever thought about it?

What, if anything, is holding you back from doing so?” – Lisa Nichols

The Dickens Process – What Are Your Beliefs Costing You?

A lot, says I! Honest, when I first moved here, I met wonderful people.  An array of wonderful people, then when one incident (in terms of not being let into a bar because I was black, and hearing rude remarks, and seeing how my Irish and American colleagues were treated far better at work and society than me) led to many others….I decided to believe that all Thai people were openly racist towards people of color.

I want you to ask yourself these questions…
What has each belief cost you in the past, and what has it cost people you’ve loved in the past? What have you lost because of this belief? See it, hear it, feel it.

What is each costing you and people you care about in the present? See it, hear it, feel it.

What will each cost you and people you care about 1, 3, 5, and 10 years from now? See it, hear it, feel it.”

Here’s an example from an audio text from a persistent smoker….

“If they are coughing like crazy right now [from lung cancer], how do they keep smoking? They say to themselves, ‘Well, I smoked for years and it was never a problem.’ Or they say, ‘It will get better in the future. After all, George Burns lived until 102 smoking cigars.’ They find the exception to the rule because no one knows what the future is. We can make it up, we can convince ourselves it’s going to be okay. Or we can remember a past time in which it was okay. That’s how people get out of it.”

We continue to do the same things that we know are killing us, from past thoughts and actions, incidents, to physical things such as smoking.  We always find a way to convince ourselves that it’s going to “be all right,” don’t we?

It’s kind of like when we feel pain in one time zone—meaning past, present, or future—we just switch to another time zone rather than change, because change brings so much uncertainty and so much instability and so much fear to people.

There was a time that Tony Robbins held a seminar called Unleash The Power and did an emotional flood exercise which I practically do every morning in terms of thinking of some of the best times I felt loved, in joy, and in tune as a child.  With Oprah Winfrey in attendance, among so many others, you can see tears streaming down the faces of the attendees because we literally forget about all the great that has happened in our lives. Video: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smhzRqHkpZs)

“Perhaps it’s time for you to take a temporary break from pursuing goals to find the knots in the garden hose that, once removed, will make everything else better and easier? It’s incredible what can happen when you stop driving with the emergency brake on.”

Jack Canfield – Build A Powerful Support Team & Delegate To Them

The ascent of Everest was not the work of one day, nor even of those few unforgettable weeks in which we climbed….it is, in fact, a tale of sustained and tenacious endeavour by many, over a long period of time.  Sir John Hunt *Scaled Mount Everest in 1953*

Listen, in order to become a high achiever, you’re going to need a powerful supporting cast.  That group of staff members, consultants, vendors, and helpers who do the bulk of the work while he or she is available to create new opportunities.

Just recently I had one of my students create and resize some photos for me on photo shop because I’m not that technically savvy.  Yes, I could’ve learned myself, but if it’s easy to delegate tasks for very cheap, why not?

The Total Focus Process

There’s an excellent process in Jack Canfield’s ‘The Success Principles Book” which helps provide you with clarity in terms of how you should be spending your time, and what you should be delegating to others.

  1. Start by listing those activities that occupy your time. They could be business-related, personal, volunteer work, even things like filing and photocopying.
  2. Next, choose from the list the 1-3 that you’re very good at and that needs your special unique talents that very few people have.  These activities that you’re very god at and that generate the most income are the ones you want to spend the most time on.
  3. Finally, create a plan for delegating everything else to other people.

Another great example is since I’m a teacher, I have a lot of clothes.  I’m not going to spend 3-4 hours one evening washing 9 suits, 20 shirts and pants, etc when I can easily delegate that to the lady down the road for 2-5$ every two weeks.

The Need For Personal Advisors

Too many business owners don’t even have an accountant.  They run their entire business program; however, there aren’t any experts at hand checking the numbers.

For instance, I had a student who became an accountant at a prestigious firm and saw that employees were stealing hundreds of thousands of baths over the course of 5-10 years.  When you run a business, you need to also have people who can keep close tabs on numbers because once assets start disappearing, you have to be 100% responsible and take on the task yourself.  Or, you can pay and have one accountant do the bulk of that dirty work.

Once You’ve Chosen Your Team Members, Trust Them

A great story is one by Raymond Aaron.  He was selling his home to move into an apartment, so he delegated an entire project to his assistant. He told her to find a specific flat. “Find it, negotiate the lease, and bring me the contract to sign,” he said. “Then hire a moving van, get a check from my office to pay the movers, pack up the fragile items, supervise the movers, and drive behind them to my new home.” He even had her hire an advance cleaning crew and arrange a handful of other things.

Where did he meet her? On vacation!

What could a virtual assistant or virtual freelancer do for you? Write up speeches? Reports? Create a radio commercial? Develop a YouTube video?
