Positive Mental Attitude: Season 2 – Episode 8 – Habit of Saving Revamped

“The principle he learned and the one that you also can employ will now be stated in a very few words. In reading The Richest Man in Babylon, Mr. Osborn found that wealth could be acquired if you:

(a) Just save one dime out of every dollar you earn;

(b) Each six months, invest your savings and interest or dividend returns from these savings and investments; and

(c) When you invest, seek expert advice on safe investments and thus you won’t gamble and lose your principal.”

Oh, yes! The habit of saving, one of the best kept secrets and a principle I went over quite some time ago.  Guys, it was July 3rd, 2017….my brother (as most negative stories from my childhood revolve around him) came home and was yelling at me.  He said I was selfish (although I was a poor college student) because I was allowing my mother to pay for my phone bill.  I remember crying and leaving to my best friend’s girlfriends’ house — Dominique.  The next day we watched Transformers (the original motion picture) before going to a fourth of July party in the evening — where my brother actually greeted me with a handshake — acting as if nothing had taken place a day before.

Over the next year I stood up to him gradually….but all arguments and problems between 2005-2013 stemmed over money.  Either I wasn’t giving my mom enough money, or I should get a job.  From that point going forward, I was an aggressive saver.

Of course this doesn’t relate to investing, but I became self-aware that being broke, was not fun. Yes, I had $10 to my name at one point here in Thailand, but never again was I ever that broke again.

You have to be consciously aware of your spending.  In my Darren Hardy blogs, I emphasized how you can curb your spending or just be aware of how much you’re spending.  I always put myself on a daily budget.  Thankfully I’m working hard throughout everyday; therefore, I don’t have time to buy things I crave (carbing up with pizza or pancakes).  Also, I follow a routine every morning.  I have a fried egg, rice, and chicken (stir-fried basil)….so I’m constantly aware of how much I spend everyday.

Guys, I can’t stress enough how important it is to save.  In my podcast I give you some stories that ultimately lead me to saving.

Napoleon Hill: Your Standing Army – End of Lesson XIII

These fifteen soldiers are labeled: Definite Chief-Aim, Self-Confidence, Habit of Saving, Imagination, Initiative & Leadership, Enthusiasm, Self-Control, Doing More Than Paid For, Pleasing Personality, Accurate Thought, Concentration, Co-operation, Failure, Tolerance, Golden Rule.

This is the most powerful army on EARTH! This army is ready for the bidding of any person who will command it.

Will you take charge?

Without the aid of a definite purpose the remainder of the arm will be useless to you.  Find out, as early in life as possible, what your major purpose will be.  Neil Donald Walsh said in the secret, “alot of us think there’s this imaginary blackboard in the sky that god has for us.  We spend our entire life searching for this blackboard.  However, whatever that purpose or mission is…is the mission we give ourselves.”

Remember, Lincoln’s major definite purpose was to free black slaves of the south and he turned that purpose into a reality.  Roosevelt’s was to build the Panama Canal.  Henry Ford’s was to build the best popular priced automobile on Earth.  Bill Gates was to put a computer in every home in America.

If you can vitalize your mind with a definite purpose and immediately your mind becomes a magnet which attracts everything that harmonizes with that purpose.

The powerful man is the man who has developed, in his own mind, the entire fifteen qualities represented by the fifteen commanding officers shown in the picture.  Before you can have power you must have a definite purpose; you must have self-confidence with which to back up that purpose; you must have initiative and leadership with which to exercise your self-confidence; you must have imagination in creating your definite purpose and in building the plans with which to transform that purpose into reality and put your plans into action.  You must mix enthusiasm with your action or it will be insipid and without “kick.” You must exercise self-control.  You must form the habit of doing more than paid for.  You must cultivate a pleasing personality.  You must acquire the habit of saving.  You must become an accurate thinker, remembering, as you develop this quality, that accurate thought is based upon facts and not upon hearsay evidence or mere information.  You must form the habit of concentration by giving your undivided attention to buy one task at a time.  You must acquire the habit of co-operation and practice it in all your plans.  You must profit by failure, your own and that of others.  You must cultivate the habit of tolerance.  Last, but by no means the least important, you must make the golden rule the foundation of all you do that affects other people. – Napoleon Hill.

Create a picture of this army and keep it where you can see it everyday.  Study these soldiers everyday, by reading my blogs, or by listening to my podcasts.

The Penalty of Leadership

Since living here in Thailand, teachers have said: I’m black, too loud, too funny, not strict enough, too much charisma, gets all the work, brown noses, shouldn’t be a teacher, can’t write, bad at presenting.  In addition to that, students have said: we want a white teacher, we want a handsome teacher, you’re too funny, we want to go page-by-page, we want that 150 year old traditional style teaching whereas a teacher writes a bunch of shenanigans on the board and we copy it.

Is this part of leadership? Well, just know in every field of human endeavour, you’re going to get that white light of publicity.  When you start doing good and start making a name for yourself, the envy will be there waiting for you.  The reward of the publicity and recognition; the punishment, fierce denial and detraction.  It could become a target for the envious few or envious many.  When you do something mediocre, they’ll leave you alone.  When you achieve a masterpiece, it will set a million tongues a-wagging.

You’re never going to get the “seal of genius” stamp in what you do.  I’ve had people who said my writing was appalling; conversely, my college professors would give me straight A’s on my papers.  The one who said I couldn’t write to save my life never majored in English….get the drift? There are parasites and bacteria out there that are trying to find a way to harvest anywhere on your body…and I’m not speaking literally.  The comments and negative opinions of others are just that….parasites and bacteria.

The Penalty of Leadership is monstrous.  The moment I created a curriculum that enabled others to get a lot more work, there wasn’t a ‘thank you’ anywhere in the vicinity.   The pessimism grew even larger because the fact and matter is that my image is being created in a way that will alter the trajectory of colored people worldwide.  If you’re not ready to strap on your helmet and barrel through the cynicism, criticism, haughty and antagonists, I suggest you stick to the 9-5 job.

Basic Habits of Saving + Chart

Finally! After literally ten days of promising, I’ve posted this blog for you and you can see how amazing it is to save money and how it can grow.  Can you do this with a low-risk mutual in a compounding environment? Possibly.  That’s why I tell everyone who views my blog to get in touch with your financial advisers (free to speak to them) or consultants to ask questions!

There are those who are short-sighted and fond of pointing to the fact that no one can actually become financially dependent by saving a few dollars a week.  However, this creates habit, which is what I’ve been talking about for quite some time already – and will ultimately lead to you taking advantage of endless opportunities that could present themselves in the future.

Most people have the habit of gambling, drinking, excessive entertaining, and just throwing money away.  Imagine this for a quick second….just imagine you received a check from someone.  What’s the first thing that comes to mind? HOW TO SPEND IT!  This is what most people in the world experience.  We think more of how we are going to spend what we received rather than saving it.

The idea of saving, and the self-control and self-sacrifice which must accompany it, is always accompanied by thoughts of unpleasant nature, but oh, how it does thrill one to think of SPENDING. – Napoleon Hill

The habit now saving must become a regular, well grounded, systematic habit.  It requires more force of character than most people have developed.  In doing this, the other needed habits which lead to success: especially Self-control, Self-confidence, courage, poise and freedom from fear.

Napoleon Hill – How To Overcome The Fear of Poverty

First, scissor up those plastic cards that lay either idle, or accessible in your wallets and purses.  It’s time to pay virtually cash for everything.  Oh, and this comment is specifically for my Thais here in Thailand – DON’T PAY OFF DEBT WITH CREDIT CARDS! Makes zero sense.

When you start doing this, the sigh of relief will be an overwhelming feeling of joy.  Breaking away from the worrisome and indebtedness so that you’re ready to revamp the habits in your mind and re-direct your course toward prosperity is going to be one of the best achievements of your life.

Remember, when you discontinue an undesirable habit, know that their will be a void or space in the mind that will need some accompanying.  If you don’t occupy that free-space, what will come back?

You guessed right!

The destructive habit that you kicked before.

I’ve talked about a couple of formulas which I told you to copy, paste, print, and recite aloud. There are more formulas approaching very soon…and these formulas will become a part of your mental machinery.

I’m assuming that because you’re reading this…you’re somewhat striving for financial independence.  No, I’m not talking about those ridiculous “how to become a millionaire and billionaire” over-the-top videos you see on YouTube.  I’m talking about the accumulation of money to where you don’t worry about your finances – period.  It’s not difficult to do after you master the Fear of Poverty and developed in its place the Habit of Saving.

The fact and matter is that the cold, cruel, relentless truth is that we’re in the age of materialism.  We’re in the age that showing cars, houses, and everything materialistic gives you an upper hand over other people.  Just look at it this way, if you see a man wearing a suit jut waltzing down the street, you would ask yourself “how much money does he have,” right? However, if you see a man walking down the street with his clothes unpressed, his collar is dirty, shoes scuffed up, and not clean-shaved…you’re probably thinking that he shows signs of impoverished finances.

This tendency to judge people by the money they have, or their power to control money, is not confined to any one class of people.  We all have a touch of it, whether we recognize the fact or not.  Egoism, which I’ll be going over extensively in the coming weeks, is closely related to materialism.  We have to learn to break away from the “I’m better than you because I have more money” bs so we can uplift humanity.

And before I close this out, a lot of men stumble and fall, never again to rise, because of lack of money in times of emergency.  Reserve Funds are essential in the success operation of business! These are all the topics and things I discussed in my podcast down below.  Enjoy!

Napoleon Hill – The Law of Success – Revamped Lessons

I’m bringing to everyone the book that seemingly began to change my life at the beginning of 2016.

Having already read the secret, my life still wasn’t changing.  The change ultimately happened after a completely failed trip to Singapore for New Years Eve in 2015 (last time I will ever travel with friends), and the lightbulb went off in my head, “what is it that’s trying to emerge in my life right now?”

Something guided me to one of the biggest book stores in Bangkok at Siam Paragon and there it was: Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success sitting on a shelf, untouched, and still wrapped.

I bought the book  which ultimately lead to my first ever podcasts which aren’t available on YouTube, so I decided to make blogs, remake the podcasts, and launch this.

If you’re looking for a starting point in your life, here it is.  I’m going to go lesson by less, including podcasts alongside each one, about the fifteen Laws of Success.  Here they are as followed…

  1. A Definite Chief Aim will teach you how to save wasted effort which the majority of people expend in trying to find their life-work.  This lesson will show you how to do away forever with aimlessness and fix your heart and hand upon some definite, well conceived purpose as a life-work.
  2. Self-Confidence will help you master the six basic fears with which every person is cursed – the fear of Poverty, the fear of Ill Health, the fear of Old Age, the fear of Criticism, the fear of Loss of Love of Someone and the fear of Death.  It will teach you the difference between egotism and real self-confidence which is based upon definite, usable knowledge.
  3. The Habit of Saving will teach you how to distribute your income systematically so that a definite percentage of it will steadily accumulate, thus forming one of the greatest known sources of personal power.  No one may succeed in life without saving money.  There is no exception to this rule, and no one may escape it.
  4. Initiative and Leadership will show you how to become a leader instead of a follower in your chosen field of endeavour.  It will develop in you the instinct for leadership which will cause you gradually to gravitate to the top in all undertakings in which you participate.
  5. Imagination will stimulate your mind so that you will conceive new ideas and develop new plans which will help you in attaining the object of your Definite Chief Aim.  This lesson will teach you how to “build new houses out of old stones,” so to speak.  It will show you how to create new ideas out of old, well know concepts, and how to put old ideas to new uses.  This one lesson, alone, is the equivalent of a ver practical course in salesmanship, and it is sure to prove a veritable gold mind of knowledge to the person who is in earnest.
  6. Enthusiasm will enable you to “saturate” all with whom you come in contact with interest in you and in your ideas.  Enthusiasm is the foundation of a Pleasing Personality and you must have such a personality in order to influence others to co-operate with you.
  7. Self-Control is the “balance wheel” with which you control your enthusiasm and direct it where you wish it to carry you.  This lesson will teach you, in a most practical manner, to become “the master of your fate, the Captain of your Soul.”
  8. The Habit of Doing More Than Paid For is one of the most important lessons in the Law of Success course.  It will teach you how to make advantage of the Law of Increasing Returns, which will eventually insure you a return in money far out of proportion to the service you render.  No one may become a real leader in any walk of life without practicing the habit of doing more work and better work than that for which he/she is paid.
  9. Pleasing Personality is the “fulcrum” on which you must place the “crow-bar” of your efforts, and when so placed, with intelligence, it will enable you to remove mountains of obstacles.  This one lesson, alone, has made scores of Master Salesmen.  It has developed leaders over night.  It will teach you how to transform your personality so that you may adapt yourself to any environment, or to any other personality, in such a manner that you may easily dominate.
  10. Accurate Thought is one of the important foundation stones of all enduring success.  This lesson teaches you how to separate “facts” from mere “information.”  It teaches you how to organise known facts into two classes: the “important” and the “unimportant.”  It reaches you how to determine what is an “important” fact.  It teaches you how to build definite working plans, in the pursuit of any calling, out of FACTS.
  11. Concentration teaches you how to focus your attention upon one subject at a time until you have worked out practical loans for mastering that subject.  It will teach you how to ally yourself with others in such a manner that you may have the use of their entire knowledge to back you up in your own plans and purposes.  It will give you a practical working knowledge of the forces around you, and show you how to harness and use there forces in furthering your own interests.
  12. Co-Operation will teach you the value of team-work in all you do.  In this lesson, you will be taught how to apply the law of the “mastermind” described in this Introduction and in Lesson One of this course.  This lesson will show you how to co-ordinate your own efforts with those of others, in such a manner that friction, jealousy, strife, envy, and cupidity will be eliminated.  You will learn how to make use of all that other people have learned about the work in which you are engaged.
  13. Profiting by FAILURE will teach you how to make stepping stones out of all of your past and future mistakes and failures.  It will teach you the difference between “failure” and “temporary defeat,” a difference which is very great and very important.  It will teach you how to profit by your own failures and by the failures of other people.
  14. Tolerance will teach you how to avoid the disastrous effects of racial and religious prejudices which mean defeat for millions of people who permit themselves to become entangled in foolish argument over these subjects, thereby poisoning their now minds and closing the door to reason and investigation.  This lesson is the twin sister of one on Accurate Thoughts, for the reason that no one may become an Accurate Thinker without practicing tolerance.  Intolerance closes the book of Knowledge and writes the cover, “Finis! I have learned it all!” Intolerance makes enemies of those who should be friends.  It destroys opportunity and fills the mind with doubt, mistrust, and prejudice.
  15. Practicing The Golden Rule will teach you how to make use of this great Universal Law of human conduct in such a manner that you may easily get harmonious co-operation from any individual or group of individuals.  Lack of understanding of the law upon which the Golden Rule philosophy is based is one of the major causes of failure of millions of people who remain in misery, poverty and want all their lives. This lesson has nothing whatsoever to do with religion in any form, nor with sectarianism, nor have any of the other lessons of this course on the Law of Success.

When you have mastered these Fifteen Laws and made them your own, as you may do within a period of from fifteen to thirty weeks, you will be ready to develop sufficient personal power to insure the attainment of your Definite Chief Aim.

With all of these being said, and how this has drastically changed the outcome over a one year period, join me on this journey.
